about

My brother JK and I were in an interesting space the last couple of years. We really wanted to put together part 2 of our 2020 album. "Worshipping In the Wilderness", but neither of us had the emotional bandwidth to complete a full-length LP together. With both of us dealing with personal loss and engulfed in community work, we instead used music as a tool to express what we were feeling in real time. We did a song for local news promotion looking to give more positive news, another song for victims of historic flooding that happened in our state, and another song focusing on the challenges that fathers endure in the system. These one-offs started materializing into a cohesive project, centered around, what we like to call, "message music". No filler, no rapping just to rap type of jawns, but rather meaningful & purpose filled songs that could stand alone as singles. We took a brief pause at the top of 2023 so that I could knock out an EP to shake the rust off, and then we dove back into working on our album.

Hip hop has always been a voice for the under-served. In the early 1970's, it represented poor brown and black people living across America whose stories were untold. A culture that documents the struggle while encouraging hope. Showing the rest of the world the darkness, we are in, while also showing them the light at the end of the tunnel. Staying in line with that tradition, we created "Voice for the Voiceless" as our contribution to the game as its 50th birthday is celebrated worldwide this week! Every song on this album means something.
